  • Our best tour in Costa Rica! I am a bird lover, and booked the early bird watching tour through Pura Vida Tours. They picked me up by 5:00 in the morning and drove for 15 minutes to get to the rain forest by the National Park. My guide (Javier) was great; he pointed out so many birds, and even made some strange noises to attract them! He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I highly recommend this tour, as well as Pura Vida Tours, they really provide excellent service.Published 23 feb 2010 - kulasito
  • great day with pura vida! i did the all day combo/adventure tour with pura vida and it was a great day! it started early - got picked up at 7am and didnt get dropped off until 10pm - but it went by so fast! it started on the hanging bridges, then on to the la fortuna waterfall, lunch in la fortuna, hiking at arenal, watching for lava (which we saw!), then to the hot springs. our guide was so knowledgable about everything costa rica - the plants, animals, culture, everything - and didnt mind the gazillion questions that we asked. everything was perfect! • Exceptional experience! My boyfriend and I just got back from touring Costa Rica. While in La Fortuna, we booked a tour to the hanging bridges, La Fortuna waterfall, and a sunset hike at the Arenal Volcano with Pura Vida tours. Our guide was Javier, a former biology teacher. He will tell you that he only speaks 'un poquito' english, but it is near perfect. He was very engaging and knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. He helped us take pictures of birds from far away through his binoculars. At the very beginning of our volcano hike there was an absolutely miserable downpour and we were all completely soaked. I think that most of us on the tour were considering not completing the hike, but Javier convinced us to and the rain stopped in 10 minutes, the sun came out, and the hike was well worth it. The tour was very prompt and professionally run. I would seek out Javier for other tours if we go back (especially Rio Celeste!) - he really seems to love his job and meet new people. Highly recommended!! Published 18 ene 2010 - puppy_doc
  • Excellent service for my student tour group I connected with Pura Vida Tours several years ago when I first started bringing my college student group to Costa Rica for an ecological study tour. I will be using them for the fourth time this year. They have consistently provided me with great service organizing activities. They also provide knowledgeable, well spoken English speaking guides. Advises

While we try to make everything possible to assure that your trip is rewarding, there are certain factors that are out of our control. Many people feel that the only way to truly enjoy the experience of Costa Rica is renting a vehicle; nevertheless sometimes problems arise. So that you avoid suffering these inconveniences, we beg you to take note of the following thing:

  1. You should treat the vehicle as if it was of your property, since the obligatory insurance doesn't cover all type of damages.
  2. Don't leave the vehicle unattended with belongings inside, not even for an instant. The insurance neither covers accessories of the vehicle like radios, tools, rims, tires, neither damages which cost is minor than the deductible amount.
  3. Never park in the street, use public parking with surveillance.
  4. You are responsible for violations to the traffic laws.
  5. If you reside abroad you should carry your passport or a copy of it, where your picture and the last entrance date to Costa Rica are shown. Also remember to carry your valid driver’s license.
  6. The value of the windows and windshields of the vehicles is very high; you are responsible for their damage, without caring whose blame is it.
All the rents of the vehicle consist on 24 hours for every day, after the hour agreed by you for the returned of the vehicle, the extra time will be charged per additional hour.
  7. Before driving, make sure carefully that the vehicle is under optimum operation conditions, also make sure of carrying the necessary documents.
  8. If you want to keep the vehicle rented for more time than agreed, remember to call our office at least two days before to obtain authorization.
  9. Always use the seat belt, it is to save lives.
  10. The minimum speed in our highways is 40 KPH, and the maxim 100 KPH. The limit of speed in the streets and secondary roads is of 60 KPH. The maximum speed can vary in certain areas and it should be demarcated on the surface of the road.
  11. It is absolutely forbidden by Law to drive motorized vehicles on the beach, consequently the insurance won't be effective in these cases.
  12. Either the National Institute of Insurance (INS) neither our company will be responsible for crane expenses or tow in anyone of the specifically mentioned cases.
  13. DO not PAY to the traffic authorities, the infraction tickets should only be paid in the nearest State Bank. You should present a copy of the receipt to the Rent a Car when you return the vehicle. If you get a ticket, it is your obligation to notify it to the rent a car company.
  14. If you are involved in an accident, please don't move the vehicle, call us immediately to carry out the respective report, also wait until the traffic authorities and the National Institute of Insurance come over.
  15. If the vehicle suffers damage and somebody unknown offers you help, watch you’re your belongings zealously.
  16. Please understand that the above-mentioned are advices and suggestions. The common sense should always be the rule to travel abroad, don't hurry, only relax and enjoy our wonderful country.
  17. Following these advices carefully will guarantee you a safe arrival and filled with memories of Costa Rica.

Remember, our team is completely qualified and available to provide you the best service every moment.
